The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE)

Definition:

The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a single-transmembrane and multi-ligand pattern recognition receptor of the immunoglobulin protein super family. RAGE is expressed at low levels under normal physiology, but it is highly upregulated under chronic inflammation because of the accumulation of various RAGE ligands. RAGE also is expressed by multiple cell types in the brain and spinal cord that are linked to the pathogenesis of neurovascular and Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). RAGE has effect on numerous intracellular signalling mechanisms.
